Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) stores tiles and overview pyramids in a specific byte order so HTTP range requests can stream any zoom level without downloading the full file. Use COGs for web mapping, large rasters on GCS/S3, and Google Earth Engine ingestion.
